GENRE: Space-core / Psychedelic / Post-Punk/ Space- Rock / Ambient
Formed in 1998 by Gregg McKella, originally going out as Flowers from a Strange Land and then went on as Paradise 9 doing gigs in and around London and the South-east. They released their Showtime CD on their own label in 1999.
Their music could be described as eclectic psychedelic ambient punk...and described by reviewer Abi Rhodes as “Hawkwind meets Joe Strummer....”
Split up in 2002 after an argument involving a flying chicken curry, Gregg (previously Image Wot Image) continued to play with Dreamfield and then accidently re-formed Paradise 9 in 2005 after doing a one-off charity gig with now Carl Sampson on drums...the gig went so well they decided to continue....
2007 saw Tyrone Thomas (ex-Alternative TV) added to the line-up on lead guitar, with Neil Matthars (Casual Affair) on bass in 2008.
2008 saw Paradise 9 opening for Nik Turner's Inner City Unit at the Inn On The Green. Their djembe/keyboardist, Steve Teers, has also worked with Gong's Mike Howlett. Gregg McKella has also worked with Mick Farren, also The Damned's keyboardist, Monty Oxymoron playing a few of gigs with him, and also guested on clarinet at the Inner City Unit debut re-form gig in 2007.
Their new EP CD “Nothing For Tomorrow” is available now.
