Rated R is the name of at least three artists:
1.) Underground Hip-hop artist from Tampa
2.) Now defunct, Brooklyn based experimental grindcore band featuring Dan Deacon and Keith Abrahms of Time Of Orchids, PAK, Giggle The Ozone, etc.
3.) A Danish rockband
1.) Rated R has been an underground legend in the 813 since 1993 when he debuted on Jam Pony Express' "JPE Live" 12" and threatened to "put Tampa on that ass." Rated R has been working hard on local scene ever since by performing at clubs, hosting and battling in emcee competitions. The TampaHipHop.Com staff took it's first hard look at Rated at a DJ battle in 1996 hosted by Celebrity's Night Club in Ybor City. Rated R grabbed the mic during the open mic competition and spewed verses like "I'm so thuggish, Niggas call me 4 Pac." In 2001, H-Ski the CEO of 2-4-1 Entertainment decided to spark up a new record label that would represent Tampa, and the College Hill emcee Rated R was Ski's first choice to put out on wax. The first single "In Here Ta Nite" was initially only given to Mixshow and Club DJs for promotional use, but didn't take long to become the number one requested song in the area. The LP featuring The Eve'nin Ridaz, production Ke'shem Sadiq and DJ Trans.
2.) Rated R was an improvised grindcore project formed by then SUNY Purchase students Dan Deacon, Keith Abrahms, and filmmaker Joe Quinn in 1997.
The band only made one recording, a live album recorded at CBGB's, and was probably better known for playing in front of strip malls, children's baseball games, laundromats, and other non-venues (which was occasionally documented on video, now viewable on youtube.)
Songs consisted of hectic, improvised avant-grind.
