Biography

Restricted Code existed from around 1978 to 1981. The band formed in Glasgow and made records, did John Peel sessions, toured extensively.

Tom Cannavan, vocal/guitar

Frank Quadrelli, guitar/vocal

Kenny Blythe, bass/vocal

Steve Lironi, drums (replaced Robert McCormack)

The band was formed by Tom Cannavan and Frank Quadrelli, friends since schooldays who'd played in bands since they were 16 or so. Influences were pretty eclectic from punk (big Sex Pistols and The Clash fans) to "new wave" (Talking Heads, Television, etc) to funk and soul (Chic, Otis Reading, etc). Tom and Frank wrote all the songs together.

The band toured the UK several times, and toured with The Human League in UK and Europe, and toured with the Fire Engines, another band signed to the same record label Pop Aural (formerly Fast records - Human League, Gang of Four, etc.)

Discography:

Second City Statik EP, 1980

First Night On/From the Top, 1980

Love to Meet You/Monkey Monkey Monket, 1981

Radio:

John Peel session, BBC

Richard Skinner session, BBC

The band had fantastic critical success (Paul Morley in NME picked them as "band most likely to..." in 1980, "best gig of 1980" in Sounds, lots of rave reviews, etc ), but didn't sell many records. First Night On briefly topped indy charts - but that didn't mean big sales in 1980....

The band split up late in 1980. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
