Biography

Back in 1993…..when Rick Cee was a mere twelve years old, his interest in House music began. Back then he claims his main influences were Jeremy Healy and Graham Park and of course being from Manchester the Hacienda.

Rick Cee purchased his first set of decks in 1994 out of the loot for £35, one Sony and one Technics, using a wheel to change the pitch and complete with a mixer originally from Tandy (inclusive of echo button, ha!). Within a few months he found himself Djing at numerous ‘legal’ parties and by 1997 (16 years of age) he was playing the main room at Fluid in Manchester.

Over the next 14 years, Rick Cee saw his life change to a nocturnal existence that spanned the Globe. From Garlands in Liverpool to Sankey’s in Manchester to Pacha in London. From the summer of 2002 to date, his reputation crossed the continent when he was asked to play at Café Mambo, Kanya, The Orange Corner, Plastik, Eden in Ibiza and Fiesta En La Playa in Tulum, Mexico and is now a yearly occurrence. Rick Cee has just returned from Sri Lanka, where he was booked to play both Friday and Saturday events @ Hikka Fest and his selection of House, Tech House and Techno was just right for the up for it festival goers.

He boasts a long list of DJ’s that he has played at nights at including Jonathan Ulysses, Redsoul, Jay C, Jason Herd & Jon Fiz (herd ‘n’ Fitz), The AudioWhores, Oliver Lang, Jamie Gittins, Tom Sheridan, Mistress Da Funk, Jo Mills, Ralph Lawson, Nick Hussy, Copyright, Redsoul and John DeArgo to name a few!

His sets combine soulful, funky, classic, jacking and tech house dependant on where the crowd takes him. He now also uses Traktor synced with ableton live using an X1 controller with his Pioneer EFX dependant on what gig his is playing, he still likes using good old CDJ’s and also vinyl when playing classics, three deck vinyl mixing used to be his thing before the digital age kicked off. His energy being the decks always get’s the crowd going and being a seasoned clubber you can often catch him on the dance floor supporting other DJ’s and getting lost in the music.

Rick plays the most recent in uplifting house tunes of all genres slipping in the odd classic or two and combines them with technical individuality. He also makes his own edits of acapella’s and samples to be used in his sets so they can be as individual as the nights that he plays at.

Whist in the studio he has remixed tracks for the likes of Jon Fitz that was released on Lowered recordings.

Rick Cee recently played at Kendal Calling festival and received this review from the Boxfresh team “Rick Cee ushered in Ibiza and the sun shone – for a moment we could have been nearer the Balearics than Barrow and his brand of house was just the tonic. Feet shuffled and people smiled -he passed CDs out to the gathering crowds and we were on the home straight.” and has just had another return booking.

Now relocated to London, Rick Cee originally from Manchester continues to obtain regular gigs in the city and continues to travel the globe.

Rick Cee has promoted his Brand Funkie Junkie “hooked on house music” renowned for its Manchester boat party’s for over 6 years now. Since his move to London his has hooked up with good friend and fellow DJ / Producer Armack. They realised their vision in 2012 with the creation of #CutTheMustard (CTM) Recordings – “London’s independently Global” house music label.

Both owners have been involved at the top end of the house music scene for over a decade, DJing and promoting at some of the biggest clubs in the UK, Ibiza and throughout the world. Over this time they built a strong network of fellow producers and DJs who often expressed a similar concern – they know they are producing good quality tracks, but focusing solely on their local market (as many unknown producers and labels often do), they can’t achieve the level of promotion that they require in order to gain significant recognition.

CTM’s ethos is to be a local independent label, founded and based in London, but with a truly Global presence.

CTM is signing a diverse range of artists throughout the world, who share a common love of underground house music and a common talent of producing tracks that truly cut it. By joining CTM, artists commit to remixing each other’s tracks, and playing and promoting them within their local cities – with the combined result meaning that everyone achieves a much greater exposure than they could have otherwise achieved alone. Supplement this with CTM’s first class distribution routes to virtually all major digital sellers of house music, and it really is an attractive start-up package for ambitious, likeminded and talented producers.

CTM Recordings is also a frequent host of exclusive label parties, where you can expect some of the finest deep, soulful and uplifting tech house to guide you through the day, including EXCLUSIVE previews of upcoming CTM releases.

With regular tour dates booked the brands and Rick Cee continue to grow, when his not DJing he is busy producing behind closed doors. To book Rick Cee as a London House DJ please check availability
