Born in Edinburgh in 1975, Robert Dick enjoys a varied and versatile career as a violinist, violist, keyboardist and primarily as a conductor, as well as maintaining a busy teaching schedule.
He graduated with honours from the Royal College of Music in London in 1997, his professors there having included Madeleine Mitchell on violin and Yonty Solomon on piano. His work as an orchestral player and chamber musician has seen him perform in some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Hofburg Palace in Vienna and all the major London venues as well as Buckingham Palace. He has worked with some of the most notable orchestras in Scotland, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Concert Orchestra.
As a conductor, Robert has participated in concerts, competitions and courses in Belgium, France, Austria, Germany, Bulgaria, Russia, Spain, Croatia and the USA. He holds diplomas from the Vienna International Mastercourse Series, the International Summer Academy of the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Freiburg Conducting Academy and he continues to study with Joerg Bierhance in Vienna. He is currently the conductor of Edinburgh’s Orchestra of the Canongait and the Dundee Symphony Orchestra and has completed cycles of the symphonies of Beethoven and Schumann.
