Rodney Allen was signed to The Subway Organization in 1986 after Martin Whitehead had seen him play just one gig. Allen was sixteen years of age at the time and came from Pilton village, near the site of Glastonbury festival. He recorded one album in a very brief session and it was followed by a 12" the next year. A year later he joined The Chesterf!elds as second guitarist, they were a pop group from Yeovil who were also on The Subway Organization label. In around 1990, he joined Bristol band The Blue Aeroplanes with whom he continued to develop his songwriting and guitar playing as well as occasionally taking the lead vocals with songs such as "Careful Boy", "Fun" and "Wond'ring Wild".
