Sam Monie Updated biog:
Based in Scotland Sam Monie is the best DJ producer you never got the chance to hear. He started his musical journey 30 years ago, putting on underground parties in towns across the Scottish Highlands, before travelling around the world to find new parties to dance at and new music to dance to, from the beaches of Goa to the Omen club in Frankfurt, always listening, always learning.
It was a chance visit to London at the start of 1996 that changed everything: this, he was told, was a club he should pay a visit and a party he might want to try – that club was the The End, and that party was Wiggle. By the time The End was celebrating its first birthday party, Sam had moved to London; he had found his happy place.
Building up a recording studio on Coldharbour Lane in Brixton, he spent every spare hour learning how to make the music he loved to DJ out and dance to, alongside listening to his biggest influences at The End, from Mr C to Andrew Weatherall, and all the way to Mike Dunn, He started DJing at any underground party where he could get on the bill, and was building a reputation as a DJ who, once heard, never forgotten.
Sam has DJed and performed live at the famous Superfreq parties in Calais in France with his dearly departed friend Laurent (aka Lol). He has also had a residence at London’s Medicine Bar and Whack parties.
With seven tracks released in 2014 on STARKFutures Records, Sam got the bug for releasing his music to the masses but put his career on hold as he moved back to Scotland and started building his home studio from scratch.
Now, with his catalogue fully loaded with CHUNs and his own blossoming record label Ginger Nut Records ready to launch, Sam is releasing his second EP Hold Me on the record label he considers to be one of the very best - Superfreq Records.
