The album's title refers to the country calling code for the United Kingdom (+44) and the North American area code for Jamaica (876), Sting's and Shaggy's respective home countries. In the first 3 months the album sold over 500,000 copies, world-wide (phillpes).
On 7 December 2018, it was released the Deluxe Softpack 8-bonus-track CD edition of the album, including the unreleased track "Skank Up (Oh Lawd)", 2 new versions of "Gotta Get Back My Baby" and 5 unreleased acoustic live tracks recorded in July 2018 in Paris.
At the 61st Grammy Awards, the album won Best Reggae Album.
