Shallow Roots are a Bristol seven-piece band playing music with influences of Spanish folk, African pop, Latin music and western popular music. The combination of soprano and tenor saxes with two guitars, vocals, drums and percussion makes a music which is intimate and gentle yet also rhythmic and highly danceable. Band members are Rob Vasey (rhythm guitar, vocals), Jonathan Hyams (lead guitar, vocals), Romilly Gibbs (soprano sax), Jamie Darwen (tenor and soprano saxes), Sarah Cocks (bass), and Ally Kessler (drums and backing vocals). Rosalind Moreno-Parra is principal vocalist on some songs.
Shallow Roots play frequently at Bristol venues including currently at The Grain Barge, Salt Cafe and The Tobacco Factory.
