Biography

Shama, born in Libya, is very much attached to her Indian background and its music. Impressively, she is one of very few artistes who can boast of having had her own band at the tender age of 10, and performed regularly on Voice of Kenya T.V. before moving to U.K.

Having received her vocal training from Smt. Swati Natekar and Smt. Krishna Chakraborty, Shama went onto developing her own voice and style to suit the music she performs.

Shama became a brand name in her own right in 1994 as she set out with the very popular Shama and Friends band, wowing audiences in South America, Caribbean, West Africa, Dubai, Europe and nationally in UK over the next several years. She has performed alongside artistes from the Bollywood music industry like Anup Jalota, Sukhwinder Singh, Nitin Mukesh, Mangal Singh to name a few…

Having worked on several albums, and had her songs heard in various movies in several countries, including the recent Liam Neeson movie, Taken 3, and National Geographic documentaries, as well as being featured with artistes such as Geri Halliwell, better known as Ginger Spice, on her debut album Schizophonic, Shama relaunched herself, and debuted her single with a fresh new sound. This was also the first time Shama turned to song writing. A talent she didn’t know she had until she put pen to paper! Maahi was Shama's first attempt at lyrics and was received well. She soon followed up with Baarish, Diljaani and next up was Jogan.

A New Beginning with The 515 Crew:

In early 2009 Shama decided to spread her wings further and enter a different arena. New goals needed to be achieved and a need to create something new was growing. So the search began...

After several discussions, Shama came together with The 515 Crew, a young and dynamic band which entered its first year as a band, although all the individual members had a collective experience of several years between them.

The aim was to create a new sound; a new band with several advantages. Shama brought with her, years of experience in the business, clients, and not forgetting, a following. The 515 Crew brought with it a fresh new sound, talent and an enthusiasm to make a mark. Together, they have been writing, producing and releasing their own songs as well as live performances in the UK and abroad.
