Biography

The 101 are a Scottish six-piece indie pop-funk band, incorporating a classic funk element into their upbeat indie music. Since their formation in 2017, the young band has made a considerable name for themselves both locally and nationally.

Drawing influence from the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Bad Suns and Passion Pit, the band combine a classic 80’s sounding funk element and concoct it into their own unique sounding anthemic pop music, best illustrated through the bands’ debut single ‘Not you but me’ and follow up single ‘Cliché’.

The band has since received support from the likes of BBC Scotland, BBC Introducing, STV, Amazing Radio and coverage from WePlugGoodMusic, Clash Magazine and NME. Accompanying this, the band were featured in Jim Gellatly’s ‘New Music Column’ in The Scottish Sun and have received editorial backing from distribution giants Spotify, being added to global playlists The Indie List, Hot New Bands and Release Radar.

The band are already familiars to the Scottish live music scene, with a sold-out headline Scottish Tour including a packed hometown show in Aberdeen’s most prestigious live music venue, The Lemon Tree (500+). Off the back off the band’s initial success, they have also shared the stage with bands such as Fickle Friends, Fatherson, Vistas, Prides, Be Charlotte, Gengahr and The Little Kicks in a host of venues across the country with their live performance hailed as ‘bounding with a pulsing energy’ (WePlugGoodMusic.com).

The bands up-and-coming reputation continued into late 2017 with the release of highly anticipated second single ‘Cliché’, which landed as single of the week on BBC Radio Scotland’s Janice Forsyth Show and has attained a combined 200,000+ Spotify Streams since release and saw The 101 named Born to be Wide Artist of the Month in the Scottish Herald.

Wrapping up the bands highly successful 2017, The 101 were publically voted ‘Ones to Watch’ at the Pride of Aberdeen Awards, along with a live television appearance on STV and being hailed as ‘Ones to Watch in 2018’ alongside Lewis Capaldi, Calum Beattie and Dancing on Tables, by renowned radio DJ Jim Gellatly.

The band continues on optimistically into 2018, with a third single set for release for the May, as well as an abundance of festival slots across the country to be announced.
