Current line up: David Simmons, Jon Finka, Jimmy Count
Expect a mix of Roots and Traditional Blues songs interspersed with instrumental and ambient styles.
The Steyne Gang has developed from a group of musicians who have met regularly to play at the annual August charity event in Steyne Gardens, Worthing. Following their success at this event, David Simmons (vocals, guitar, bottleneck guitar and lap style slide guitar) has been asked if the band would play at several of the music venues in the area. This then led to the formation of the Roots/Blues band Storm Drain Kelly (current line up David Simmons, vocals, guitar, bottleneck guitar and lap style slide guitar; Jon Finka, guitar; Piotr Kolincio, bass guitar; Simon Griffin, drums) who continue to play as a four piece.
With a desire to maintain an acoustic feel to his music and play smaller venues, David decided to keep The Steyne Gang name, as an option to play a more varied repertoire and include musicians who may be available at the time. For this event, Jon Finka plays electric guitar; Jimmy Count plays drums & David Simmons acoustic/electric guitar, 12 string guitar, bottleneck and lap style slide guitar.
David studied Musical Instrument Technology at The London College of Furniture, specializing in Early Instruments and Music. As a luthier he has made and designed his own instruments and also composed using a variety of styles.
