Biography

The Unsung started off as a side effect; Ben and Julia got chatting about their individual interest in music, at a mutual friend's wedding after party at the end of 2013. This chat led to them exchanging tracks which resulted in mutually positive feedback and Ben asking Julia if she'd be up for putting some vocals on some electronic tracks that he and long-term friend and collaborator Craig had been working on. The three of them met up at the start of 2014, laid down some of Julia's ideas on the tracks then after a couple more meet ups/jam sessions Ben suggested working on some songs as a live band; Julia subsequently received the offer of a gig that May for her acoustic project Kindred (which had recently been put on hold); so The Unsung found themselves with incentive to find a bassist, refine songs they'd been working on and write a couple more. Craig and Ben had played in various covers bands with John so knew they all clicked musically though The Unsung only met as a full band a handful of times before their first gig in May 2014; Since that first gig they have focused their energies developing their sound in between practising and playing gigs in and around Carlisle and Cumbria and are currently in the final stages of recording an album which should be available on soundcloud to stream and on limited edition cds later this summer.

People have described our sound as 'multi-genred', 'alternative pop' with depth. We would say our music is melodic, intense, moody, energetic - something we tend to collectively agree on is achieving balance and valuing space in a song (JL 02/05/16)
