Choosing a name is not easy, so how can you sum up hours of ideas, days of invention in a few simple tongue-tingling syllables?
UV PØP, now that’s a good one. Ultra Violent Pop. A contradiction in terms, maybe, a bright hopeful collective, perhaps. Whatever it sounds like, it’s got to be a blow in the right position, a carefully aimed assault on the senses. It could have been such a con - often what looks convincing on paper falls uncomfortably flat when put into practice.

The sound of U V PØP has always been a sophisticated blend of sadness; with morose North Country sense and a humorous confrontational sensibility. Back again with new material and a carefully polished back catalogue there is evidence still of the melancholy that gave us all hope for today and tomorrow.
Against this backdrop John White formed and re-formed U V PØP. The sound as it echoed from the streets was breathy, and desperate. The songs are about the pain of hurting to remember. The poet sang in a hoarse whisper.
