Biography

Music for fast moving clouds

Ethereal Electro Visceral Melodic

Berlin based French Caribbean performer, painter and electronic pop chanteuse Valerie Renay (Noblesse Oblige) released her first solo album Your Own Shadow co-produced by Alexander Paulick-Thiel (Kreidler) in autumn 2018.

After initial help from producer Moses Schneider (‘Living In Germany’, her first single) and Einstrzende Neubauten’s engineer Boris Wilsdorf (‘Everywhere’) Valerie keeps writing and developing her sound live, testing her new material while playing concerts internationally (Germany, Poland, South Africa, Italy etc).

Your Own Shadow is a collection of empowering songs and dreamlike melodies coloured by delicate poetry. Her music crosses through darker boundaries, showing rough edges while exploring captivatingly twisted electronic territories.

The stage show is raw and sensual. Valerie delivers a dramatic and emotionally charged vocal performance, offering poignant stories delivered in English and French over layers of synths and guitar, gripping hypnotic bass lines bouncing off bewitching tribal beats. Brutal and soulful at once, each concert is a ritualistic experience with punk attitude.

‘I’m Everywhere’ a spectral noir smouldered siren call that purrs through shadowy apertures emitting mesmeric mantras softly ghosted in airless cosmic vapour trails upon which are the whisperings of tender seduction, all desirably enigmatic and stately -

‘Living in Germany’ a brooding dark hearted missive daubed in a sinister chill tipped post punked toning threaded and somewhat suffocated by a tensely sparse psych tinged paranoia vibing whose obvious reference markers are both Throbbing Gristle and

Suicide though scratch a little deeper and from out of the minimalist murmurs appears a Grace Jones / Siouxsie hybrid channeling heavily on XMal Deutchsland.
