Biography

William Morgan is currently a trainee of the National Opera Studio, supported by English National Opera and the Nicholas John Trust. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, and continues to study with Tim Evans-Jones. His study at RCM was supported by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.

He made his solo debut for English National Opera in 2015 performing the principal role of the Younger Man in the world premiere of Tansy Davies' Between Worlds, directed by Deborah Warner. Other opera work: Pastore/Spirto/cover Apollo L'Orfeo (Bayerische Staatsoper), Nemorino L'elisir d'amore (Duchy Opera), cover John Darling Peter Pan (WNO), Henry Crawford Mansfield Park (Upstairs at the Gatehouse), Alfred Die Fledermaus (OperaUpClose), Anthony Sweeney Todd (Longborough Festival). A member of ENO Opera Works, he studied Castor Castor et Pollux, Jupiter Semele, and performed as Le Comte Ory at Sadler's Wells; at RCM he performed Lysander A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Le Chevalier Dialogues des carmélites.

An avidly committed chamber musician, William performs many song recitals, including at the Oxford Lieder Festival, the Royal Albert Hall's Elgar Room, and the Royal Overseas League, with repertoire featuring the major song cycles of Schubert, Schumann, and Britten. He has appeared in concert at the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican, St John's Smith Square, Canterbury Cathedral, and Snape Maltings, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Before attending RCM, he read Natural Sciences at the University of Durham, and cut his teeth in theatre around the North-East and at Edinburgh Fringe. He has an interest in directing, putting on Hansel and Gretel at St John's Waterloo with RCM students, and Dido and Aeneas in Durham Castle. His initial musical training was on the violin.
