Japanese DJ Yoji Biomehanika, who has recently reduced his artist name to Yoji Read more on Last.fm. She is inspired by artists such as Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder & Amy Winehouse. Classically trained at the piano from the age of 8, Yoji developed a passion for song writing as both a cathartic and creative outlet. Yoji often gets asked to session sing for producers. In 2009 a dance track Yoji was featured on was released in the USA. For many years Yoji has been recording her songs and collaborating with a fantastic musician and producer named Ephraim Greenland. In 2012 Yoji won the award of best song at the International Music Conference Launch in London for her up tempo Motown inspired track, ‘His Love’ and since then she has secure 3 licensing deals with international publishers.
Yoji launched her debut EP ‘Ocean Govern, Sunshine Rule’ in the summer of 2015. The EP title derives from the translated meaning of Yoji’s Japanese name. Yoji’s recorded her EP with renowned producer James Sanger who has worked with Madonna, Keane & Dido. Yoji brought her original songs to the French countryside to select and record the EP. Yoji’s single, ‘I Need More’ was mixed at Decoy Studios, by the acclaimed Cenzo Townzend who mixed George Ezra’s chart topping album Wanted On Voyage.
Following a Radio Campaign where 44 regional radio stations playlisted Yoji’s debut single ‘I Need More’, she toured the EP in Suffolk, Essex, The Midlands and London throughout the summer. These venues included the famous Jazz Café, Dublin Castle in Camden and The Musician in Leicester. Yoji also recently won an iLuvLive competition in partnership with SnazzBacks where she performed at their event in London and received prizes. BBC Introducing in Suffolk have supported the EP and Yoji as an artist by playing her music regularly and also had her perform live as a guest on the show.
