Sheffield Health and Fitness Guide

Unfortunately after living in Sheffield for about a week, the simple but horrifying error of your decision to move to this city will reveal itself. Some numpty decided to build Sheffield at the point where seven separate hills converge (where the city centre redevelopment gets its name from as you ask) and as a result even a five minute walk can leave you dripping with sweat and weeping uncontrollably on the pavement.

The positive thing about this is that whenever you walk anywhere (which you will do because walking is cheap) you are sort of exercising. If you prefer more traditional forms of exercise however, both unis have a full complement of sports teams which go head to head in the annual Varsity Challenge and each uni has its own gym which you can join for a special student rate. At Hallam you can buy full access to the fitness suite for £140 a year while Uni offers off peak access to their gym with swimming pool for £160 a year.

The Goodwin Sports Centre is extremely popular with students, and boasts plenty of facilities including a 33m pool, tennis courts, pitches, a sports hall and a first rate gym – called S10 Health.

Hopefully that’ll help keep your immune system up and stave off Fresher’s Flu while also combating those beer calories!
