With a heavy focus on rock, we’ve got seven great bands coming to Glasgow’s Ivory Blacks on 19th October.
And this year’s headliners? Well, given we’re a Glasgow-based site and we’ve always had our gigs in Glasgow, it’s about time we had a hometown headliner and we knew it had to be Six Year Silence! Formerly known as Uproar, Six Year Silence have been a fixture of the Glasgow scene for a number of years with their blend of hard rock and metal and will make for a perfect finale to Rocktoberfest! There’s also a whole lot of musical kudos to be found in the band with the members having shared stages with the likes of Alter Bridge, Skillet, Thin Lizzy and other household names and it’s clear that’s rubbed off on them here.
Directly before our headliners, we’ve got in-house favourites Seething Akira! We’ve been behind this band for years so it’s only right we get them on one of our shows which, in essence, is why we do this once a year. Not quite the same as anything else we’ve got planned for you on this year’s bill, we’re making sure with their addition we’re stirring up the pot and chucking variety in your face! Described as “…a dynamic mix of metalcore, nu-metal, and hard rock soundscapes with thrashing guitars and brutal, melodic, and infectious vocal hooks”, it’ll blow away anyone who might have arrived at Ivory Blacks when the doors open (that’s everyone who’s coming, right?) and may be flagging.
Gutlocker are a welcome bit of filth to this year’s line-up. The four piece have previously played festivals such as Bloodstock and Rabidfest and now they’re coming all the way from Woking to play for us in Glasgow. So if you want something heavy to beat your dinner down with in between all the other excellent bands, make sure you’re back in Ivory Blacks in time for these groove metallers.
How about some post-grunge/altrock? Coming all the way from the depths of Ayrshire, we’d like to introduce you to The Breathing Method. Constantly coming up to Glasgow and making waves in the scene such as supporting In Search of Sun at Ivory Blacks and a set at this year’s Rockmantic, we figured we best get in on the action! Expect distorted riffs by the bucketload, driving drums and gravel-filled melodic vocals which will take you back to the 90s. However, they’re not afraid to mix it up so expect a dash of metal and punk for good measure. As the band themselves state on their website:
Recommended to us by our friends at Watermelon Promotions, we've got The Guns For Hire! The heavy metallers cite a number of classic and modern influences for something which will appeal to metalheads across the spectrum (though maybe not if you’re into your really dark and depraved death and black metal) and given the energy they’ve got in their performances, we think we’ve got them placed at exactly the right spot on the bill. Chances are you’ve maybe seen them in Scotland’s Metal 2 the Masses where they shared a semi-final gig with fellow Rocktoberfest participants The Breathing Method. So needless to say, we’re keeping it in the family!
Another band hailing from Glasgow, we’ve got GunPoint X! They’re going to get your blood pumping as they cite influences such as Machine Head and Fear Factory, and anyone considering coming for just the names at the top of the poster, this is a prime example of why you should always come to a gig for every band (unless other factors prevent you).
Stone Soup will be kicking off the day in style with a blend of blues, rock, stoner, metal, prog so you can expect them to get Ivory Blacks warmed up. As one of only two bands not from the Glasgow area (they’re from over the border, just like Seething Akira), they’re more than up for getting acquainted with us north of the border.
