THE RETURN OF THE FUTURAMA FESTIVAL 11th & 12th SEPTEMBER 2021 – A UTOPIAN FESTIVAL FOR DYSTOPIAN TIMES
THE LEGENDARY 2-DAY POST-PUNK FESTIVAL RETURNS TO LIVERPOOL
OVER 60 BANDS ACROSS 5 VENUES ( INVISIBLE WIND FACTORY, SUBSTATION, MAKE, TEN STREETS SOCIAL & NORTH SHORE TROUBADOUR
Celebrating 40 years, Futurama was known as one of the greatest post punk & electronic festivals through the 70s & 80s. In fact, it was probably the first indoor alternative festival in the UK. The roll call reads like the greatest who's who of alternative music and they include Joy Division and New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, PiL, Killing Joke, Teardrop Explodes, Bauhaus, The Fall, Smiths, Gang of Four, Sisters of Mercy, Theatre Of Hate, Psychedelic Furs & even a fledgling U2.
Now it's back and already it is shaping up to be one of the best line ups of 2021. Saturday is headlined by Heaven 17 who will be performing early Human league songs, while on the Sunday Peter Hook and the Light will be performing the famous Joy Division set from the first Futurama in Leeds in 1979 as well as the bands greatest hits. They are supported by the likes of Spear of Destiny, The Chameleons, A Certain Ratio, Warmduscher, The Blinders, Clock DVA, Sex Gang Gang Children, Billy Nomates, Pom Poko, Sink Ya Teeth & Balaam and the Angel with more to be added
The whole festival will have a dystopian theme as the Invisible Wind Factory has a very art deco feel to it and looks like a set from the film Metropolis. There will street entertainers in dystopian costume, food and market stalls, a band signing area, photos booths and best of all it's indoors and all the venues are within a couple of minutes walk from each other!
