There is nowhere quite like Croydon! The 5th Croydon Heritage Festival celebrates the unique story of the town with over 50 events responding to the theme of Evolution. Taking place from 24 June ? 30 June 2017, it is organised by 420 year old local charity The Whitgift Foundation.rnrnAs the Croydon embarks on the most significant era of redevelopment since the 1960s, we look back at how the town has evolved to become the place that it is today. The journey is a tale of innovation ? from the Roman saffron farms to Tudor palaces, pioneering Victorians and concrete utopias ? all the way through to the explosion of creative energy that the town is enjoying now.rnrnHighlights include a flagship discussion exploring the story of Croydon?s Evolution in one evening, the return of the National Trust?s Edge City Walking Tours and The Museum of London Archaeology Time Truck. The festival also features a wealth of home-grown talent such as Concretopia author John Grindrod, comedian Kevin Day, theatre-maker Jenny Lockyer, films by David Lean, music from Trinity Boys School Choir and Croydon Youth Jazz Band, poetry from Well Versed Ink, live film soundtracks by Lucky Dog Picturehouse and a series of talks from revered local historians. rn rnwww.croydonheritagefestival.co.ukrn
