52% of under 35s prefer New Year to Christmas our survey has revealed.
Contrary to popular opinion, 90% of people also said they prefer going out to staying in on New Year’s Eve.
Almost 3 in 4 people said that New Year was the biggest party night of the year, followed by Halloween.
When asked how much money they typically spend celebrating NYE, over a quarter (28%) said between £100 and £150 – more than any other night of the year. A fifth said they spend between £150 and £200, whilst 3% of under 35’s said over £500; including an outfit, drinks and club entry.
Overall, the majority of people (37%) said they prefer to spend their New Year's Eve with a small group of friends; whilst nearly a quarter said they like to celebrate with a larger group. Nearly a fifth (19%) said they enjoy the evening with a mixture of friends and family and 15% see in the New Year with their significant other.
