7 acts we can’t wait to see at Weyfest

Weyfest in Surrey is just around the corner! To celebrate this wonderful, multi-genre fest, we took a look at some of the artists we can’t wait to see on stage.

Date published: 9th Aug 2024

Going since 2007, and winner of Skiddle's Best Small Festival Award, Weyfest is one of the very best family-friendly festivals in the country and has a wonderfully wholesome run of events on its calendar, alongside a wicked selection of acts on its lineup.

Music is spread over four stages, including The Rustic Acoustic Stage, and covers rock, pop, reggae, soul, and blues. There'll be axe throwing, Outdoor Laser Combat, a wellness area, a small steam train for the littluns, the Kidszone, the SciFi Zone which will see appearances from Dr Who and Star Wars characters, a climbing wall, festival body paint and glitter, and more.

However, whilst headliners like Incognito, The Lightning Seeds, and The Feeling will be dominating the lists of people you want to see, the lineup is so much more. So we wanted to let you in on seven acts at the Surrey-based soiree that deserve your attention just as much. Find out who they are below!

Big Country

Big Country's Scottish folk music-infused punk rock sound became a huge hit in the 1980s, and almost four decades later have, via their esteemed reputation as a live act, lost none of their pulling power among their dedicated audience. Plus, they even invented a way of making guitars sound like bagpipes. What's more wickedly Scottish than that?

With huge numbers like 'In A Big Country', 'Fields Of Fire' and 'Look Away' you will be more than treated when watching Big Country live, and to reiterate... who doesn't want to hear guitars sound like bagpipes? A must-see in our books.

Duo

Ben Bruant and Will Cashel are Duo – a... well, duo, who effortlessly and uniquely fuse styles from flamenco, pop and classical music through their virtuosic guitar playing that never fails to attract the crowds at festivals.

Together the band has recorded five albums and two EPs and performed to audiences including British and European royalty and at venues such as Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Good Food Festival, G-Live, Newbury Spring Festival, Folk on the Dock, Goodwood and the F1 Grand Prix. Not ones to miss if you love watching acoustic guitars being played exceptionally well.

Hardwicke Circus

Coming out of Cartlise and named after the town's most famous roundabout, Hardwicke Circus are an up-and-coming five-piece who through playing over 700 live shows, have attracted a large online and festival following, and have proved they have what it takes to go all the way.

Watching them live only enforces this belief. With a sound that brings comparisons with the trio of the E Street Band and the dark passion of classic Doors, but with plenty of British authenticity and perhaps even a hint of Dexy’s in their high-voltage attack; these boys are so much fun, and a must watch at Weyfest this year.

Neonfly

Since 2008, Neonfly have been a fresh voice in the overcrowded melodic metal scene. The brainchild of guitarist & songwriter Frederick Thunder, their metal soundscapes scream for the biggest stages, and are charged with a grandeur that captures any and all who come to witness it.

A band who are no stranger to the Weyfest crowds, if you haven't had a chance to see their show in years gone by, then make sure to be front and centre this time around.

Acantha Lang

Hailing from New Orleans, Acantha Lang's musical accomplishments were born of pure vocal talent and self-determination. Since becoming the first female MC at Manhattan’s renowned cabaret, The Box - a role that ultimately catapulted her to London to open the UK’s sister club - Acantha has found her own band and her own sound and has quickly become a London-based American R&B superstar in the making.

Come down to her set at Weyfest and prepare to be mesmerised by her vocal honey that American Songwriter has compared to the venerable vocal flutter of Aretha Franklin.

Connolly Hayes

Having just achieved a nomination for the UK Blues Awards 2024 UK Emerging Act of The Year, Connolly Hayes are a blues/rock/soul group comprised of 6 long-time friends (Jess Hayes, Frankie Connolly, Richard Clarke, Beau Barnard, Joe Mac and Andy Wilder) who are making some serious waves on the UK festival circuit since their performance at the legendary Isle of Wight festival in 2023.

They are somewhat of a supergroup in the UK blues scene, with many of the members having successful projects of their own, and with a sold-out UK tour on the horizon, these lot are not ones to miss out on!

The Farleys

If you've been to Weyfest before, then there's a big chance you know who The Farleys are. These lads are legends of the festival, having played it almost every year, and outside of Weyfest, they've been Al Murray The Pub Landlord’s house band since 2013!

Playing unique reworkings of popular songs, the Farleys combine great musicianship and off-the-cuff humour to deliver rabble-rousing sets at festivals, pubs and gigs alike. they are heaps of fun, so make sure not to miss their set!
