On Saturday 4th April, Grammy award winning producer and DJ Afrojack will be taking over Victoria Warehouse for a night like no other. We're using the Easter bank holiday as an opportunity to pack out our events space with music lovers and put on a spectacular show.
Named by the Hollywood Reporter as a 'global icon' ready to 'conquer the world', Afrojack is one of the most prolific names in electronic dance music today. He's known for a versatility of sound that always manages to retain its authenticity, making him the perfect artist to fill our industrial events space at Victoria Warehouse.
Afrojack, real name Nick Van de Wall, grew up in Spijkenisse, Netherlands and showed musical talent from an early age, learning to play the piano when he was five. At age 14, Van de Wall started DJing at pubs and clubs, whilst designing websites for other musicians to earn extra cash. His mother owned a local gym and brought him up on her own, imbuing him with the determination and entrepreneurial spirit that Van de Wall would later show by becoming one of the ten highest paid DJs in the world, according to Forbes in 2013.
In 2007 he released his first recording under the name Afrojack, called In Your Face. 2010 saw Afrojack truly explode on to the mainstream music scene with the hit song Take Control featuring Eva Simons, that charted in 10 different countries and went platinum in the US. In this year, he also created the Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and released the EP Lost& Found.
Never one to rest on his laurels, Afrojack went on to start his own production label Wall Recordings, as a platform for emerging electronic dance artists.
2011 saw Afrojack become to the first ever DJ to sign an annual residency deal in Las Vegas. Afrojack performed over 12 times a year at the well-known Wynn Hotel chain's clubs, including XS, Encore Beach Club, Tryst and Surrender.
Afrojack?s influence over the electronic dance music scene has been cemented by his collaborations with a number of household names, including David Guetta with whom he co-wrote and produced the hit Titanium. Afrojack has also written for Madonna, Chris Brown, Pitbull and Ne-Yo. He worked on the production of Beyoncé's singe Run the World (Girls) and created a Grammy-nominated remix for Collide by Leona Lewis. Afrojack's massive 'Jacked' tour saw him hit 40 US cities in 2012. He has headlined numerous music festivals, including Coachella, Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival.
In 2013, Afrojack became the first DJ to ring the closing bell at the Stock Market Exchange in New York, and later in the same week, he added his handprints to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was the second DJ ever to do this. A new DJ residency in Las Vegas - Hakkasan beckoned in 2014 and Afrojack also released is debut album Forget the World.
Afrojack is one of those performers who never seems to slow down. His name is globally recognized and his influence has altered the course of electronic dance music forever.
