Afterlife with Dixon at Space Ibiza review

We were easily lured into Space Ibiza to check out one of the newest parties on the island this summer, Afterlife, with the promise of an unparalleled, immersive techno experience.

Berlin-based Italian duo Tale Of Us are the team behind the concept which sees a season of events with the aim to show and reflects their vision of music and also with the premise of taking the crowd on a journey. The duo have also since announced the launch of the Afterlife label, making future artists and releases which will compliment the live events.

The queue to get into Space was huge from the get-go, bustling with a diverse mix of people who were all eager to get into the superclub for a night of underground brilliance. We started the night in the Sunset Live area of Space which saw Tale of Us go back-to-back with long-term collaborator, Recondite.

Their set was everything that you would hope for as the trio took the whole of the room on a journey into a powerful and melancholic soundscape. Recondite’s gnarling bass and frequencies teamed with the Tale of Us huge synth hooks and tech-house style was a near perfect match. Their own productions including Tale Of Us’ ‘Lies’ and Recondite’s ‘Murphy’s Law’ defined the set.

Next up was Confidns and this duo had an unreal energy. It isn’t an easy task taking control over the decks from the founders of the night, but they kept the Sunset Live room at a great tempo until close. Their set included their own productions such as ‘Extase’ and Bart Skils ‘Fifth Gear’. 

Dixon took the reigns on the Terrace for the duration of the night. This was his only extended set on the island this season, making the set even more special. The Terrace was absolutely packed out as we headed to witness the German DJ and producer in action.

Cementing this night as a mid-season climax, Dixon immersed every listener in his vast catalogue of atmospheric house and techno and was in complete control of the crowd all night. The Afterlife concept aims to take the listeners on a journey and he did exactly that. From hypnotic bass lines to energetic crescendos, it was all there. Tracks included ‘Bassari People’ by André Hommen, ‘Machine’ from Danny Daze and Acid Pauli’s beautiful, melodic ‘Nana’.

Afterlife boasts no fancy production or dancers, it is wholly about the music and the pure unadulterated vibe that this brand radiates throughout the various rooms and stages within the venue, creating its own untouchable world.

To think that the inaugural event only took place a few months ago in Barcelona before taking the Thursday night residency in Space, it feels as if Afterlife has already made a big imprint on the music scene and is definitely one of the big key players for the final chapter at Space. Whatever the future holds for Afterlife after the club closes, there is no doubt that it is destined for greatness.
