You've all heard of Gengahr by now right? They've already played their hand with a quintet of cuts from their upcoming album - bathed in sparkling melodies, Felix's joyous vocal and all round clever guitar play that's got us massively anticipating their debut slab.
We first caught wind of them after a tip off from Manchester band Blossoms and their announcement for The Great Escape. From then on we were hooked, and finally seen them in action at this year's Sounds From The Other City in Salford.
We were treated to a triumphant set that included a number of unheard tracks from A Dream Outside, setting the bar even higher for its scheduled arrival on Monday 15th June via forward thinking label Transgressive Records.
Without doubt that bar will be met for a band that's undoubtedly going places, but in the meantime we found it necessary to get word from the band, and gain you an insight into their first long-player that will be a prime candidate for indie album of the year (see why with 'Heroine' below).
What does the album represent?
The album represents our first year as the band we are. It's a snapshot of where we were at after that first year touring and writing. Hopefully it captures all the energy and excitement we felt when making the record.
Where does it stand musically?
It's a modern guitar album. We try to write the best songs we can in quite a classic sense. I think that mentality lends its self to more of a pop sensibility, but because our own musical influences are generally more left-field we end up somewhere in between the two.
Pick out a lyric from the album?
All I ask I just one more chance. If I grew horns and fins, at least I'd get to start again. And speak in tongues just like it all began. Somewhere underneath the sea are teeth the size of you and me.
Favourite song to perform?
Maybe 'Powder' (below) is the most fun live. We have a pretty controlled sound for the best part, but we normally end the set with this track and it still works well when things get a little scrappy and loud. It's normally a fairly large crescendo in the set.
Tell us something we wouldn't know about it?
We have all played in bands for over ten years now and none of us have ever even featured on an album until now. It's a very much long awaited debut for all of us.
Nice one guys, we can't wait to hear it!
