Control have had a blinding couple of months. Solomun’s Diynamic showcase and We Love with 2ManyDJs and Greg Wilson particularly stick out in the mind. Now well in the habit of booking seriously impressive headliners, Control invites the mighty tastemaker Pete Tong through their doors for his all conquering ‘All Gone Pete Tong’ party.
Pete Tong @ Live Liverpool
Pete Tong stands out as one of the country’s leading lights in dance music, largely responsible for bringing electronic dance music as we know it to the mainstream, a true pioneer for the genre. His iconic radio show has been responsible for introducing to the world massive artists such as Sasha, Carl Cox, The Chemical Brothers, Tiesto and Daft Punk. His insight into which records will be the next big thing, and his ability to work a crowd as a DJ have meant that throughout three decades, Pete Tong has been the leading figure of the UK's dance movement.
Whilst managing to keep his ear to the ground, Pete is consistently picking up and championing music from beneath the radar, whilst also managing to please a larger audience, putting him in the unique position of being respected both in the underground and in the mainstream. As enthusiastic and passionate now as he was when he started out, Pete Tong’s live sets are a masterclass in skill, selection, and passion, making for essential clubbing. This weekend’s appearance at Control will be nothing short of mesmerizing.
Joining him will be Booka Shade. The German house music double team have since 2002 been responsible for some of the biggest electronic music to leave Germany. With the imminent release of their fifth studio album, Booka Shade will be performing a live set of their latest material, as well as revisiting some of their well worn classics. Fellow countryman Tensnake will also be in support, as will the ever impressive Waifs & Strays. In short, it’s a line up brimming with pure class, yet more quality output from the UK’s dance music don.
