Founded in El Paso, Texas, romantic and melancholy band Cigarettes After Sex will come to Birmingham's Hare and Hounds this spring. The ambient pop collective is led by singer and songwriter Greg Gonzalez and their popularity grew after their tracks gained attention and steadily got to over a million views on YouTube.
Started as an experiment in 2008, the group have since had a number of different musical collaborators, taking inspiration and elements from each, developing, adding to and changing their sound eventually creating something truly individual. With a new album to be released this year after the 2016 release of their highly-acclaimed single 'K', CAS are to showcase their lo-fi dream pop on Wednesday, April 19th.
Steady bass riffs, string-like synths, ballad-style drums and strums of acoustic guitar are completed with Gonzalez's ethereal and androgynous whispering of heartfelt and romanticised lyrics, creating a nostalgic haze worthy of swaying to.
