As those summer nights have drawn to a close, now is the time to submerge ourselves in current musical talents, and where better to start:
Tuesday 11th October
American hard-rock garage troupe The Icarus Line are back and ready to showcase their new album offering ‘Wildfire’. Not denying that the material has been blood, sweat and tears, Icarus Line are promising to bring their rattling, rampaging adolescent anger to The Ruby Lounge for one hell of a night.
Wednesday 12th October
Gaining notice and critical acclaim, DELS is a talented rapper who designs hi own artwork and videos. Previous singles have earned him high praise and invaluable media coverage. His recent album saw production by Kwes, Micachu and Joe Goddard, cementing the fact that he is one to watch.
Thursday 13th October
American four-piece The Blood Arm have been in good company when touring the UK with support slots with the likes of Maximo Park, Hot Hot Heat, The Killers, The Sunshine Underground…but this time they are doing it alone. Cited as one of Franz Ferdinand’s favourite bands, this is not an event to be snubbed.
Friday 14th October
Karima Francis is already a household name in the eyes of regular Manchester music lovers. Her uncompromising and deeply personal lyrics coupled with her remarkable voice and intimate performances stick in the memories of all who are lucky to experience her gigs.
Wednesday 19th October
Bristol band Zun Zun Egui stand out in the new generation of rock musicians fused with world music. African beats, heavy rock and avant-garde jazz make up an outfit like no other. If you like to dance, you will like Zun Zun Egui.
Sunday 23rd October
To coincide with the release of new single ‘Rose Red’, Sons & Daughters will be touring the UK. With post-rock and an undertone of folk instruments, they have a menacing and thought provoking way with music that is highlighted with the captivating vocals of Adele Bethel. With support coming from Peggy-Sue and Bonfires, this is most definitely going to be one of the gigs of the year.
Wednesday 26th October
Returning with some of his most passionate, fiery and powerful material yet, Idlewild’s Rod Jones brings his new band The Birthday Suit to The Ruby Lounge. Reminiscent of early Idlewild, The Birthday Suit collectively houses some of the best songs the Jones has ever written.
Thursday 27th October
You may have seen Man Like Me using their kitchen selling skills in the recent IKEA adverts. You’ll not always ‘find them in the kitchen at parties’ as they will be bringing their own party to The Ruby Lounge. Named as the ‘best damn live act in the UK’ the event should be pretty special.
Tuesday 1st November
Son of Ian Dury, of The Blockheads, Baxter Dury will be breaking from his fathers punk mould with his semi-autobiographical music which is full of terrific, understated, post-modern electro tinged pop songs. Baxter’s funny, witty and understated lyrics will leave the audience captivated.
Tuesday 8th November
Blending classic, country, gypsy jazz and southern soul, American songstress Amy LaVere has captivated audiences time after time. Receiving vast amounts of critical acclaim, her voice is smouldering and unique and her music enchanting.
Wednesday 9th November
Danish singer/songwriter Agnes Obel writes, plays, sings, records and produces all her own material. Delicate and haunting melodies coupled with her tender, dusky vocal makes Obel a must see talent, especially to those whom are fans of Laura Marling and new sensation Lana Del Ray.
Thursday 17th November
Praised by the likes of Weller, The Kinks, The Coral and The Zombies. British Indie-rock band The Moons are back to do what they do best. Energetic and vibrant performances give a much-needed psych-energy to the current guitar scene.
Sunday 20th November
Impressively having toured vigorously with Leonard Cohen, The Webb Sisters perform the most delicate of songs with guitars, mandolins and harps. Hushed, magical and angelic, the sisters are well known to involve the audience in their intimate, memorable and beautiful performances.
