Harry Styles and Wet Leg lead the male-dominated nominations with four award nods each, followed closely by Stormzy, Cat Burns, The 1975 and Fred Again with three apiece

The nominations for this year's BRIT Awards ceremony have been announced, with former One Direction heartthrob turned superstar solo artist, Harry Styles battling it out with Isle of Wight-hailing rock duo, Wet Leg for the most nominations. Each received four award nods, including the award for 'Best Album', whilst other acclaimed acts the likes of The 1975, Stormzy, Cat Burns and Fred Again followed closely with three award nominations each. 

'Space Man' singer, Sam Ryder becomes the first-ever Eurovision act to be nominated for a BRIT Award, whilst Queens of the pop world, Beyonce, Lizzo and Taylor Swift go head-to-head for the international award category alongside rap icon Kendrick Lamar and Burna Boy.

The team behind the momentous awards show, which first began back in 1977, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), introduced some major changes to its award categories back in 2022. For the first time in the BRIT's history, gendered categories were scrapped following comments made by 2021 award-winner Sam Smith. 

The non-binary singer, whose gender prevented them from being nominated in either the male or female artist awards, said: 

"I look forward to a time where awards shows can be reflective of the society we live in."

Controversially, this year's nominations have been male-dominated with only 42% of nods going to female artists or groups, despite hugely successful releases from names such as Florence + The Machine and Nulifer Yanya to name a few.

This year's award ceremony is scheduled to take place on a Saturday evening for the very first time, on the 11th of February, and will air exclusively on ITV and ITV's new streaming platform, ITVX. Comedian Mo Gilligan returns as the host of the prestigious awards show for the second year in a row.
