The BRIT Awards are taking place on Saturday 11th February, the annual awards show that celebrates the best in British music and abroad. There are always some shock nominations and surprise wins and we thought we'd have a go at picking out who the favourites are for this year's categories. Check out our nods and the full list of nominations below.
Mastercard Album of the Year
The 1975- Being Funny In A Foreign Language
Wet Leg- Wet leg
Harry Styles- Harry's House
Stormzy- This Is What I Mean
Fred Again..- Actual Life 3
We'd like to think that The 1975 have a good chance of securing the bag here but they'll likely be pushed close by Harry Styles, whose music has been inescapable over the last year and more. The 1975's feels as if it is the most unique of the bunch, with Stormzy's not quite reaching the heights of his previous efforts.
Artist of the Year
Central Cee
Fred Again..
George Ezra
Harry Styles
Stormzy
For Artist of the Year, we'll again have to highlight Harry Styles as one of, if not the main contender for this award. George Ezra released arguably the worst album of his career to date so there's no competition there Harry might just have a free run at it.
Song of the Year
Aitch & Ahsanti- Baby
Cat Burns- Go
Ed Sheeran & Elton John- Merry Christmas
Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal- B.O.T.A.
George Ezra- Green Green Grass
Harry Styles- As It Was
Lewis Capaldi- Forget Me
LF System- Afraid To Feel
Sam Smith & Kim Petras- Unholy
If we were to expect a surprise in this category then we may choose the absolute tune that is 'Afraid To Feel; by LF System. Eliza Rose should be hopeful, her track with Interplanetary Criminal caught fire over the festival season in 2022 and its momentum never slowed down. Harry Styles will be eyeing the prize yet again.
Group of the Year
The 1975
Arctic Monkeys
Bad Boy Chiller Crew
Nova Twins
Wet Leg
Finally, an award that Harry Syles can't win, Arctic Monkeys' album 'The Car' is a welcomed expansion of their new sound but its lack of popular credentials may halt it here. The 1975 are in with a great shout, not only was their album good but their live shows have been the talk of the town too.
Best New Artist
Kojey Radical
Mimi Webb
Rina Sawayama
Sam Ryder
Wet Leg
Mimi Webb's music is a bit too dry for her to receive this award. Two albums in, Rina Sawayama is sounding better than ever but in terms of real newcomers, Wet Leg should probably sweep this one. They've had the sharpest rise of anyone on the list. Kojey Radical will be their closest competition.
International Artist of the Year
Beyonce
Burna Boy
Kendrick Lamar
Lizzo
Taylor Swift
Probably the closest of the categories so far, it feels as though most of these could win in. Beyonce is in another thrilling era of artistry, Taylor Swift is as popular as ever and Kendrick Lamar is making music that matters to a hell of a lot of people. We tip those three as favourites.
International Song of the Year
Beyonce- Break My Soul
David Guetta & Bebe Rexha- I'm Good (Blue)
Fireboy DML & Ed Sheeran- Peru
From the Encanto Soundtrack- We Don't Talk About Bruno
Gayle- abcdefu
Jack Harlow- First Class
Lizzo- About Damn Time
Lost Frequencies & Calum Scott- Where Are You Now
OneRepublic- I Ain't Worried
Taylor Swift- Anti-Hero
This 100% belongs to Beyonce for one of her best tracks from a seriously impressive career. The David Guetta and Bebe Rexha track should be nowhere near this even if it was hugely successful in the charts. The closest contenders are likely Taylor Swift or Lizzo.
International Group of the Year
Blackpink
Drake & 21 Savage
First Aid Kit
Fontaines D.C.
Gabriels
We're not sure how the duo of Drake and 21 Savage counts as a group and that album was garbage anyway. Fontaines D.C's 'Skinty Fia' was a revelation for the band and took them to heights that people thought wouldn't be possible after their first two albums. They should be the winners.
Best Dance Act
Becky Hill
Bonobo
Calvin Harris
Eliza Rose
Fred Again..
In terms of who has a brilliant year out of these nominees, we'd say that Eliza Rose and Fred Again.. have had the most impact of these artists when it comes to dance music. Eliza Rose's rise has been the fastest but Fred Again.. has had a huge moment with his Boiler Room set and new album to boot.
Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act
Aitch
Central Cee
Dave
Loyle Carner
Stormzy
A difficult category to call, it feels as though Stromzy's latest album didn't have as much impact as his previous work and the same could be said for Dave. Loyle Carner released another brilliant album and could well be an outsider for this one.
Best Pop/R&B Act
Cat Burns
Charli XCX
Dua Lipa
Harry Styles
Sam Smith
Cat Burns is a relative newcomer to pop music and whilst she's had moderate success, she's unlikely to make a mark here. Charli XCX should scoop the prize after her excellent and forward-thinking album 'Crash' but it's another category where Harry Styles could reign supreme.
Best Rock/Alternative Act
The 1975
Arctic Monkeys
Nova Twins
Tom Grennan
Wet Leg
Tom Grennan's music is as boring as it comes. He's out of the running and we're going to call it as a shoot-out between Wet Leg and The 1975 to scoop this prize. Both bands have been critically acclaimed, although the same could be said for Nova Twins.
