Abandon Silence made The Kazimier in Liverpool its repeated home back in 2014, and the parties there reflected the connection between the club night and the venue every time, so when the space closed its doors for good at the tail end of last year, what was the next move to be?
That question was answered with Beginnings, a new project from the team behind Abandon Silence that was created with the intention of bringing new talent forward, whilst still boasting some of the most exciting established talent in the process. With a new idea comes a new venue, and Camp and Furnace was the chosen one for this venture.
The creative minds behind Abandon Silence treat a building like a blank canvas, and it was no different here. They had transformed the main room with a trippy light installation that hung from the centre of the ceiling, illuminating the dancefloor and creating the perfect contrast against the harsh, grey warehouse space.
Over in the smaller, stripped-back 'Blade' room Holly Lester and Or:la, were setting the tone for the raucous night ahead with a mixture of blissful and heavy beats in the form of Pepe Bradock's luscious house gem 'Deep Burnt' and moving onto harder, glitchy vibes from The Black Madonna's remix of Da Posse's thumping 'In The Heat Of The Night' (below).
Back to the 'Camp' main room, where we witnessed the start of Joy Orbison and Hunee's epic four hour B2B. It was an odyssey of enigmatic techno courtesy of Joy O and the finest obscure disco and funk cuts, such as Junko Ohashi's uplifting 'Feel So Fine' that were spun from Hunee.
After a steady and smooth build up, it wasn't long before the debauched jams were getting a rinse, as Joy Orbison gave Daniel Maloso's filthy electro powered 'Ritmo Especial' and Tedd Patterson's remix of Lee Rodriguez's pumping track 'All The Same Family' a blast.
We headed back to Blade to catch an artist who is on every house-lover's lips at the moment - Denis Sulta. The Dixon Avenue Basement Jam talent's enigmatic and playful behaviour was complimented by a blend of rich re-edits, nineties favourites and the freshest upfront house and techno beats, including his own instantly recognisable track 'It's Only Real'. He was followed by resident Harry Sheehan who took reign and kept the vibrant party tunes going until the very end.
Over in the Camp, Joy Orbison and Hunee's marathon set was rounded off with the addition of Denis Sulta and NTS regular Jon Rust for a B2B2B2B. The all-killer, no-filler finale was teaming with massive heavy-hitting rhythms from the likes of Thomas Bangalter's 'Spinal Scratch' and the acid house antics of Armando's '100% Disin U'.
This was just a taste of what's to come from the series over the next few months, and with a new home clearly marked at Camp and Furnace and bookings as strong as ever, we're happy to toast new Beginnings.
Beginnings Two takes place on Friday 19th February with Mount Kimbie and Young Marco
