Date published: 30th Jun 2022
June was a month that exploded with music. We got to see so many of our favourite artists come to the UK such as Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Glastonbury Festival was on, which is undoubtedly the best festival in the world. Some amazing albums dropped too and we're here to highlight five of the very best from the month.
Here's what caught our eye in June of 2022.
Soccer Mommy- Sometimes, Forever
Soccer Mommy is an artist who has penned some beautiful songs and that continues on Sometimes, Forever. However, it is her biggest reinvention to date as she enlists the help of Oneohtrix Point Never on production, who adds plenty of electronic flourishes and wider texture to her sound.
MUNA- MUNA
MUNA were dropped from RCA records in a move that could have devastated the band. Instead, it has only galvanised them as they have since signed to Phoebe Bridgers' Saddest Factory label and released their most confident album to date. This is the sound of a band revelling in pure queer joy.
It's also an ode to determination, to thinking that things will actually turn out alright in the end. A glorious mix of country, pop and electronic influences.
Foals- Life Is Yours
Foals are one of the biggest bands in the UK and Life Is Yours is their seventh album. It seems as though they always have a track that soundtracks the Summer and they could well have another in Wake Me Up. What you'll find with this record is a plethora of summer anthems that are crying out to be played at a festival.
One thing that Foals have managed to master is getting you to jump all night long.
Bartees Strange- Farm To Table
Bartees Strange is one of those rare artists who genuinely feels like a breath of fresh air. Combining indie rock with hip hop, soul and more, there isn't a dull moment on Farm To Table. The way his songs can transition from sweeping guitar riffs into an all-out assault of vocals so quickly is an absolutely staggering experience. Do not sleep on this album.
Perfume Genius- Ugly Season
Perfume Genius is the moniker of Michael Hadreas, who makes some of the most experimental indie-pop that you'll hear. His latest album Ugly Season has been made to capture a sense of dancefloor euphoria. A collaboration between musical invention and stunning choreography, this isn't just an album it's an artistic experience dedicated to expression.
