Date published: 31st Jan 2023

January 2023 has been a busy one for albums where usually it can be a bit of a slow start. There may even be a couple of early album-of-the-year contenders as you'll see in the list below where we've compiled what we believe are January's finest. Get some of the tracks from these in your 2023 playlists.

Billy Nomates- Cacti

Billy Nomates' second album saw her reach out into her best material yet. Known for danceable arrangements, 'Cacti' embraces that and amps up the sense of experimentation as you hear all kinds of textures throughout. An absolute journey of an album, follow along as Billy Nomates channels vulnerability.

Samia- Honey

Samia's pandemic-released album 'The Baby' introduced us to a new star of indie pop music and her latest album 'Honey' shows how much of a talented writer she is. There are growing pains aplenty throughout this album that is gutturally emotional but also sogns that there are brighter skies ahead.

The Murder Capital- Gigi's Recovery

The Murder Capital turned to healing on their new album, a much-needed reprieve from the darkened aesthetic that dominated their debut. 'Gigi's Recovery' is a reminder of the jail your own mind can become when trying to recover from a sense of loss and through highs and lows, this album is absolutely beautiful.

Lil Yachty- Let's Start Here

It was a big surprise to find out that the new Lil Yachty album was going to be psych-rock but somehow it seems as though he has pulled it off. Often the surprise albums can be the ones we enjoy the most and that's what is the case here. With contributions from Ales G, Mac DeMarco and more, this is a fascinating departure.

Rozi Plain- Prize

A beautiful blend of jazz and folk, Rozi Plain's Prize feels as though it could be her best work and the peak of her career's evolution. If you want a listen that feels enriching throughout then look no further than here. A perfect mixture of minimal guitar and an emphasis on rhythm.
