Boom. Sankeys continues displaying its genre stepping best as the second weekend in May showcases their renewed musical explorations with deft aplomb.
Everything from rip roaring drum and bass to mesmerising techno, deep dubstep and rump shaking house grooves will be flying through the famed world-beating sound-system’s speakers. It’s the Sankeys trademark stamp of quality, contributing to the creation of a soundclash boasting the most exciting sounds emanating from electronica’s broad scope.
Oh My God returns on the Friday, bringing its swaggering selection of ruffneck grooves to the fore once more, with drum n bass trio Blockhe4d topping the bill. Genuinely wide-ranging, their sound has veered from the panoramic beauty of the Hospital Records released ‘Full Circle’ to the more grimy funk of ‘Last days of Disco’, catering for the liquid and jump up heads in equal measure.
They’re ably supported by Scouse juggernaut Futurebound and the technical wizardry of Matrix, ensuring the deebee riddims are exploited to the full. Dubstep is also catered for as well, with Bar9 bringing his inimitable sound to the forefront. Expect harsh drops, ethereal melodies and a large side of pure distilled dance floor raving for this show.

Kaluki saddle up to Midlands house aficionados Leftroom for their Saturday frolics as they celebrate its 5th birthday. Matt Tolfery’s label has gone from strength to strength since its inception back in 2004, springing out of Nottingham’s rich DIY deep house scene to become one of the dominant forces in European groove led music, favoured by everyone from Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak to Luciano, Loco Dice and Sven Vath.
Whether releasing beats by foreign starlets like Alexi Delano or home-grown talent such as Audiojack and Marc Ashken, the output has always focused on left of the centre beats; hence the label’s name. Celebrating their birthday at Sankeys, label boss Tolfrey will be joined by Subb An - live for an evening of skewered grooves and off kilter rhythms. Kaluki bring their own oddball funk in the shape of Ellesse and Pete Zorba.
