Too much turkey had been eaten, the crap presents had been opened and a day spent with the family had been survived….just! Luckily for us, Promise still had one surprise left for us. And we only had to wait an extra day to wait for it.
Boxing Day Promise @ Foundation in Newcastle always had the potential to be special ever since the line-up was announced. With Judge Jules playing well as of late and Matt Hardwick being a firm favourite with the Promise faithful, what more could you ask for to celebrate the season of goodwill in style. Needless to say, they didn’t disappoint.
With the promise of Jules on the decks, it was always going to be a busy night and the club was heaving at as early as half ten as people waited for the Judge to begin. This was not before a good warm-up set by resident and Mixmag Future Hero, Richard Tulip, though. Time after time he has proved to the Geordie crowd that he is one of the best residents in the country and this prog set to get things rolling just confirmed what most of us knew already.
What Tulip started was nicely carried on by Jules, although, disappointingly for some, his set was on the short side because he was playing at three or four different places that night. This didn’t seem to affect his performance though as he played to please the crowd throughout thus building a great atmosphere.
The highlight of the night had to be Hardwick though. The man seems like he can do no wrong when he’s behind the decks and Foundation was treated to another amazing set this time around.
With the dancefloor packed and the place buzzing, you just knew you were going to enjoy this set from the first tune to the last.
Andain - Beautiful Things, a remix of Marco V - I Feel You, NU-NRG – Connective, Ocean Lab – Satellite, Kristine Blond - Love Shy and Loops and Tings being among the tunes that were played.
The night ended on a harder note with another Promise resident, Lee Foster, belting out the tunes. By this point though, everyone had already had a fantastic Boxing Day night. Anything else after Jules and Hardwick was just an added bonus.
