Respected Bristol club promoters and general bass music buffs, The Blast have recently launched a petition to campaign for an internationally recognised Drum & Bass day on April 17th.
The movement, which is being backed by a global community of die hard drum & bass fans, calls upon culture ministers across the world, including those of Britains DCMS or Department of Culture, Media and Sport, to acknowledge the intended date as an official celebration of the increasingly popular music genre.
Born out of a diverse melting pot of inner-city music styles in the early '90s, Drum & Bass has undoubtedly been one of the UK's finest exports over the last 30 years. A fusion of ideas borrowed from youth cultures, black music and the prominent genres of the time - from hip hop to reggae, hardcore, breakbeat, acid house and jungle - the sound is one that has infiltrated and continues to influence club culture worldwide.
Amongst some of the many drum n bass pioneers and figureheads to come out of the British scene, are the likes of Goldie, Roni Size, Fabio and Grooverider, Shy FX, Andy C, High Contrast, Chase & Status, Sub Focus and Wilkinson, to name a select few, many of whom represent a host of esteemed homegrown record labels, such as Hospital Records, Metalheadz, Playaz Recordings and Ram Records.
On the day and in the lead up to April 17th, The Blast will be celebrating with a dedicated schedule of activities, featuring appearances from some very special guests yet to be confirmed (watch this space). The community can keep track of these events and make their voices heard by tagging #DrumAndBassDay on social media.
