We're now on sale for the Sunday of Calling Festival which, as we relayed earlier in the week, will feature a headline turn from none other than Stevie Wonder. The soul icon follows on from rock monoliths Aerosmith on the Saturday, his most recent turn in the public eye a grandstand performance alongside Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Daft Punk and at the recent Grammies (watch below).
His status as one of the true undoubted legends of popular music remains undimmed, a career which started via singing for The Miracles as an eleven year old and then signed to Berry Gordy's Motown Records, releasing music before his teens hit and proving his worth not only as a singer but a songwriter and mulit-instrumentalist too.
His slew of albums in the seventies ensured him as arguably the most important soul voice of all time, alongside the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye proving the genre could be an artistic platform for the creation of albums as works of art rather than a collection of singles.
Whether collaborating with Paul Mcartney, Q-Tip or Chaka Khan, speaking out against political ills or performing lengthy concerts careering through his huge catalogue, Wonder remains a truly phenomenal presence across the globe. Head here for tickets and further information on the Festival.
