With a lot of festivals claiming to have ‘something for everyone’, none can possibly fulfill that claim as comprehensively as Camp Bestival. Developed as a companion to the huge Bestival, Camp Bestival has concentrated its efforts on becoming the family festival to conquer all family festivals. The multi award winning four day festival takes place between August 1st - 4th, at Lulworth Castle, Dorset.
This year’s edition features an around the world theme, encompassing elements from cultures and societies all over the globe into one exotic journey.
The lineup for this year is the most impressive one to date, with acts as varied as R ‘n’ B pop maestro Labrinth, ex Longpigs Richard Hawley, Brighton based rockers Levellers, alternative Indie rockers I Am Kloot, and politically charged folk punk hero Billy Bragg, as well as Ash, Heaven 17, Nik Kershaw, DJ Yoda and Beardyman.
Camp Bestival also boasts an incredible DJ lineup, with Grandmaster Flash, Sasha, Fabio & Grooverider, Craig Charles’ Funk and Soul Show and Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston’s A Love From Outer Space all putting in an appearance.
There’s plenty of disco action to be had too with Kid Creole & the Coconuts’ bringing their unique live show and The Cuban Brothers will be turning back the clock, playing you the finest selection of music from the 60’s til now. We can also look forward to a comedy headlining slot from the much loved QI favourite Alan Davies.
An exclusive Horrible Histories show will be passing on their unique brand of education with the promise: “Beware all children, heads are going to roll! We can’t wait to come to loathsome Lulworth when you’ll find out just what a gruesome bunch us Barmy Brits can be!”
Add into the mix a kids’ disco every day in Bollywood, Art Town, the brand new Dance Space, and Bestival’s redesigned Dingly Dell, and you can guarantee your young ‘uns will be more than entertained all weekend at the Camp Bestival Extravaganza! There’s even a colouring in competition that will be judged by none other than Dick ‘n’ Dom from Da Bungalow fame.
For those looking for cerebral entertainment, Camp Bestival boasts a staggering literary lineup. This year will present an inspirational selection of over 50 speakers, authors, poets, journalists, scientists, philosophers, kids’ writers and illustrators. If exploring ideas, philosophies, or just chatting to authors and speakers is your thing, you’ll be kept more than busy!
Going back to the main artist lineup, Britpop legend Richard Hawley said of his headline appearance: "I am so chuffed to have been asked to headline this festival... I am looking forward to making the folks happy at a great event like this, with a big old castle, ancient Jurassic coast, rock n roll, poetry and theatre."
We’re pretty excited about it too Richard.
