Fast becoming one of Leeds most iconic venues, Canal Mills has continually showcased some of the most cutting edge artists working today. Their 1st of March installment continues in exactly that same vein, with Jon Hopkins lined up for one of his notorious live performances.
Having cut his teeth playing keyboard for Imogen Heap, producing for Coldplay, composing film soundtracks, and collaborating with master experimentalist Brian Eno, Hopkins has consistently proven his creative dexterity and ability to succeed in whatever musical genre he embarks upon.
And that's before we mention his two Mercury Awards already under his belt, the most recent being for his staggeringly, beautiful, eccentric, and downright epic Immunity longplayer (a consistent presence on our Office stereo). That includes the stunning single 'Open Eye Signal' which you can watch the video for above, and was universally hallowed for its unique vision and mind melting take on techno and electronica.
As one of the most engrossing pieces of electronic music to have reached widespread appeal, Hopkins has pulled off a miracle by taking edgy production techniques and an uncomprimising take on beats, bass and ethereal beauty whilst simultaneously exciting the masses, a feat very rarely achieved.
It's with great anticipation then that Hopkins brings his live show to Canal Mills, to be represented on a bone crushing sound system, airing his meticulous production and sound design in the best possible setting. Stunning live visuals are lined up as well to complete the unparalleled assault on the senses.
For fans of exciting, forward thinking, visceral electronica, ambiance of techno, this is the definition of a no-brainer. Head here for your Jon Hopkins tickets.
