Fresh off the back of his On The Beach headline show in Brighton this summer and countless sold-out shows and festivals across the rest of the globe, the world-renowned, legendary DJ Carl Cox graced London’s Roundhouse venue for a Sunday evening rave like no other. Choosing to perform at a way more intimate venue in the capital, the show was a major change from his typical festival sets played out to tens and thousands of people.

The Camden-based events space encapsulated heavy sounds from Cox and the two supporting acts Christopher Coe (Live) & Jon Rundell, who broadcasted their electronic, house and techno sounds throughout the evening as the event spanned over six hours.

Known for his infectious energy and unparalleled mixing skills, Carl Cox is widely renowned as one of the best DJs of all time, with more than forty years of service to the house and techno scene - and he certainly didn’t disappoint. Taking to the stage at 9pm, the icon walked out to rapturous applause and a seabed of flashlights for his highly-anticipated set.

Treating the sold-out audience to a technically flawless "Hybrid Live" set, the 62-year-old spun a wide variety of modern and ‘old school’ tracks from across the years, with a heavy emphasis on the hard-hitting techno soundscapes that he is so well known for playing. The dance floor transformed into a comfortable space for creative expression, dancing and togetherness for all attendees - a wide dynamic and mixture of ages with those who have grown up on Cox and those who have inherited his sounds throughout their ‘Gen Z’ youth.

A standout moment from the evening came when Carl played his remix of Ninetoes’ ‘Finder’ - a track that has been played loud and wide across the globe with more than 33 million streams on Spotify alone; the melody itself sent the crowd into frenzy as Cox interacted frequently with both the fans in front of the decks and behind. The showmanship presented throughout his set was second to none, an artist who you can tell he cares about the music and the emotions that are felt by the ravers. Every single build up to a drop and mix was done at the highest quality, and the live aspect of the set further proved the nature of extent of his skillset.

The evening felt like a triumphant celebration of not only Carl Cox’s enduring talent and passion, but all the great memories that have been formed as a result of the dance music scene broadcasted through live events this summer. There’s no doubt that he is one of the best to ever do it, and experiencing his craft in hybrid live format at such an intimate venue seemed like a special moment for three-thousand plus people that came to rave, and a perfect close to what has been a busy few months within the live music calendar.
