Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim & Peggy Gou to play virtual Glastonbury Shangri-La

The team behind Glastonbury’s infamous Shangri-La zone are promising to put on ‘the world’s largest independent music and arts festival in virtual reality’ on July 3-4, in response to the cancellation of the festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Featuring four different stages and over 200 artworks, Lost Horizon Festival will welcome the likes of Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, Peggy Gou, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler and ANNA and be available to experience for free (though donations to Amnesty International and The Big Issue will be encouraged) via mobile app, Facebook, Twitch and Youtube, and also through virtual reality headset.

Organisers are promising a ‘deep multi-layered experience’ of ‘wild dance-floors, secret headliners & hidden venues’, where attendees will be able to make friends, chat, dance, explore and even ‘blag your way backstage’.

Meanwhile, the area dubbed ‘SHITV’ (or Shangri-La International Television) will ‘broadcast everything from the absurd to the enlightened’, showing films, docs, theatre, live art, comedy, animation and talks.

A vision statement on the Lost Horizon website reads: “We need unity more than ever right now, in an industry that is falling away in front of us., By creating a digital platform to experience art and music in a new way, we are at the forefront of defining the next generation of live entertainment and creative communities as we know them.”
