Aaaaaaah freak out! The final headliner for Bestival has been announced, and it’s a name familiar with music lovers across the globe. The Isle of Wight festival’s Dessert Island Disco theme will be bolstered by the presence of a man and group who arguably have been the most pivotal figures in the genre’s genesis over the past forty five years, the one and only Nile Rodgers and the Chic Organisation (catch an epic video of them live from Sydney Opera House below).
Since his first compositions alongside longtime partner Bernard Edwards in the seventies, Rodgers and Chic have been bywords for groove excellence. Their records, under their own name and as the backing behind the likes of Sister Sledge, Madonna, David Bowie, Duran Duran and many, many more, have been pivotal moments in the history of popular music, with Nile recently being at the cornerstone of the recent revival of disco within the charts alongside Daft Punk.
Whilst his work alongside the French robots created one of the most feted albums of 2013 in Random Access Memories, he’s also worked with sterling names of modern electronic music like Chase & Status, Felix da Housecat, Disclosure, David Guetta, Tensnake, and Avicii.
Nile and Chic join a roster of artists that is already frothing at the proverbials, with Foals, Outkast and Beck all respective headliners for the days alongside the likes of Major Lazer, Busta Rhymes, Caribou and many more heading to Robin Hill. Head here to see the full line up.
