Club review: Apollonia @ DC10 Ibiza

Last Wednesday Apollonia took over DC10 - the second in a series of takeovers happening at the club each week throughout the month of August.

Apollonia was formed by friends and fellow DJs Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky quite recently and is both an identity for the trio and a record label designed to put out new music from the collective. Tonight it was all about showcasing the sounds of Apollonia, and all three members of the team were on hand from start to finish to do it in style.

It was a classic back to back as Ghenacia, Soundorom and Shonky each took it in turns to mix up a concoction of the French deep house they have become so well known for.

The Terrace was closed for the occasion, and it was the DC10 main room speakers that were dominated by an array of top quality tunes all night long. The crew wasted no time in providing us with the best, even though it took a little while for the club to get busy.

As the floor began to fill and the atmosphere became more electric, so did the entertainment. It was simple yet effective, as two lovely ladies took up position on top of the front of the DJ booth and began to strut their stuff to the sexy sounds of Apollonia. We danced along with them to my number one tune of Ibiza so far, Lawnchair Generals' belter 'One Thing' - as well as the seriously groovy Tuccillo rework of Delicious Inc's 'Eau de Chante'.

Out of nowhere we were shot with some of the nicest lasers I have ever seen, made up of vibrant pinks, greens and yellows, before changing to a killer red which almost set the room on fire! People talk about incredible light shows from clubs all around the world but these simple lasers were some of the most effective I have seen, timed perfectly to raise the already hot atmosphere into a boiling one. The lighting complimented the trippy samples and grooving bass lines that we were still being spoilt with.

There wasn't a moment throughout the night that we weren't thoroughly entertained. The impression I got was that Apollonia are all about the best tunes and the best experiences, and I say if you weren't luck enough to catch them at DC10, then make sure you do as soon as possible. In the meantime, check out Apollonia 002, 'Close To The Edge' (which has certainly become an Ibiza 2012 anthem) by members Ghenacia and Shonky for a taster of their sound.
