Club review: We Love @ Space Ibiza, 22.07.12

Tonight We Love returned to Space with a few of our favourite residents at the helm; Joris Voorn, Carl Craig and Ralph Lawson.

Making up the rest of this stellar line-up were guests Deetron and Bicep to name but a few, and so the decision to go really was a no-brainer.

Unfortunately we didn't make it to the club until a bit later on, and had already missed both the 20:20 Vision boss Lawson, and the Discoteca warm-up Deetron. Time to press on. Before taking up position in the main room for what would be the rest of the night, we headed to la Terraza to check out Miss Kittin briefly, who was singing down the microphone to Maceo Plex's remix of Martin Dawson feat. NRG's 'Think About It'. I've never seen a DJ sing before (apart from in live sets), but it was very effective; she has a great voice!

Carl Craig had already began his set in the Discoteca. Like many of the top DJs these days, Craig was armed with fancy Traktor controllers, enabling him to use the digital effects and mixing to maximum potential. It's very cool, but it is a shame that even big-wigs like Craig, who have been around all these years, seem to be using vinyl less and less. His set was great though, with an emphasis on the importance of bass; he took the bass out for long periods of time to give powerful force each time he brought it back in. His techno was pretty pumping and there were a lot of fists in the air.

Joris Voorn began the final set of the night at about 4:30am, and wasted no time in blasting out belters, kicking off with his “Not A Remix” of DJ Le Roi's now classic 'I Get Deep'. From then on he worked through both old and new bouncing tech house, with a high energy throughout, taking us down memory lane with some of the Joris tunes that got us into his sound in the first place; 'Sweep The Floor' and 'The Secret'. We were dancing right at the front of the still busy Discoteca by the bass speakers, which were pounding bass through our bodies in an almost painful - but enjoyable - way. Joris continued to treat us with top class tunes like his and Moby's 'After The After' and the whopping new hit from Technasia, 'Heart of Flesh'. The list goes on and I could spend all day defining the tracklist, but the point here is that Joris Voorn has his knowledge of tunes down to a tee, and it is this knowledge that gives rise to an ultimately enjoyable set and a room full of mad-happy ravers every time!

Of course we stayed right until the end. It would have been impossible to even think about leaving the club whilst Voorn was still in control, but it did eventually end and we did have to leave.

Being a We Love resident, we were happy in the knowledge that we would certainly be seeing Joris Voorn again. We entered back into the real world and embraced the sunshine, sunglasses at the ready, with smiles plastered over our faces. It had been another night of great music; the only problem with We Love (if you could call it a problem) is that the line-ups are so full of talent that unless you get there early enough there's a big chance you'll miss some of those you were most looking forward to seeing. Moral of the story – get there early!
