After a brief couple of months of convalescence, the Coded Rhythm guys return renewed and reinvigorated ahead of what promises to be one of their best years yet. Heading their return to new residency at Joshua Brooks will be the basswise genius of mercurial producer and DJ XXXY.
As one of the phoenix to rise from the flames of a faltering dubstep scene, XXXY's productions from the outset announced him as an exciting talent that was definitely going places. Early signs were seen in tracks like 'Reflections' and the stunning 'Rain', which witnessed him combining elements of Maurizio style dub techno with added bassweight and a chilling melodic tone that sounds as fresh and exciting now as it did back then.
As his career and notoriety grew, so did his penchant for flipping genres on their heads, taking inspiration from the sounds of garage, dub techno, dubstep, electro and techno, often producing records that were both fearlessly inventive and dance floor primed. His impressive debut for Doc Daneeka's Ten Thousand Yen saw him add a soulful edge to garage flavoured drum flicks - further defining his singular sound.
Recent times have seen him release 2012's incredible 'Bash EP' on Halo Cyan, where he dusted off the 808 drum machine and created an energetic slice of b-boy electro meets modern bass music. Highlight 'Werk' for example is a certified club smash, starring a killer bass line that is impossible not to lose your s@#t to (above). And then there's the little matter of acid tinged beast 'Progression' from April last year, which is undeniably one of his finest moments to date.
His sets are as excitingly varied as his creative output (check out his Boiler Room appearance at the top of the article), making him the perfect artist to launch Coded Rhythm's eagerly awaited 2014 campaign.
