The debut year of Connect Festival is shaping up to be a weekend of firsts and lasts, for many involved. Glasgow based four-piece Aereogramme have announced that they are splitting up after four years, and they have chosen the first ever Connect to be their last ever show at the festival.
Musical heavyweights Super Furry Animals, Scottish supremo producer Craig Armstrong and the brooding and anthemic Echo and the Bunnymen will also be in attendance adding their own blend of musical styles and genres to the festival experience over the weekend of the 31st August-2nd September.
Back together for a summer tour and the launch of a new album, the unique Super Furry Animals are bound to thrill the audience with their constantly evolving stage show when they headline Guitars and Other Machines on Friday night. Having produced big-selling soundtracks for films including Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet, Craig Armstrong’s orchestral manouveres will fit perfectly against the fairytale backdrop of Inveraray Castle when he performs on the Oyster Stage on Sunday. Liverpool’s legendary Echo and the Bunnymen will make a welcome return to the festival stage when they play Guitars and Other Machines on Saturday.
In addition, Connect is pleased to reveal that seminal post-punk band Fire Engines will be delighting the crowds at the festival. Fresh from their recent collaboration with Franz Ferdinand they will be playing the Oyster Stage on Saturday. Their inclusion means the Oyster Stage on Saturday is currently an almost fully Scottish affair - with Primal Scream, Mogwai, Teenage Fanclub, The Only Ones and 1990s also all performing.
Just 90 minutes from Glasgow, Connect offers a real tent with a view for 12,000 campers who will be able to rise with Loch Fyne, rolling hills and Inveraray Castle in their view. Tickets are still available but to avoid disappointment, we would encourage all music fans to be quick off the mark and log onto www.connectmusicfestival.com or call ticketmaster on 0870 169 0100.
