Manchester's monthly house and techno night 'Content' brings you Derrick May

Originally starting life in Manchester's legendary Roadhouse, Content moved to the very much up and coming Joshua Brooks a year later. The venue has been undergoing many changes recently which have helped them to win the “Best Venue” award in City Life's 2010 clubbing awards.

On July 29th Mr Derrick May will come and rock the Content faithful. For those that don't know, Derrick May is one of the “Belleville Three” and alongside Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson they are widely credited with the creation of techno and it's expansion from a crazy new sound invented by some kids in their bedrooms in Detroit to the global phenomenon it is today.

Debuting on his own Transmat label in 1987 as Rhythim Is Rhythim with “Nude Photo” Derrick instantly grabbed the world's attention with an alien sound-scape made with bubbling synthesizers and crunching drum machines. Later, he went on to create “Strings of Life” - quite possibly one of the biggest dance music records of all time.

From then on it's been a hectic schedule of releases, remixes and touring as Derrick has become one of the busiest and most in demand DJs in the techno world. If you have never seen him play before, you can expect to hear house tracks filled with raw funk and techno music dripping with soul, all effortlessly spliced together by one of the smoothest DJs on the planet.

Also check out their party on 26th August when they team up with legendary London based summertime clubnight: secretsundaze to bring Manchester it's first ever secretsundaze event, set over both floors of Joshua Brooks and featuring a free daytime party, free BBQ, Funktion One sound and the considerable DJing talents of Patrice Scott, Giles Smith and James Priestley.
