On 7 and 8 July the Cornbury Music Festival returns for the fourth year to grace the Oxfordshire countryside with non-stop entertainment and headline performances from David Gray, who will be performing a special acoustic set, and the legendary Blondie.
If re-living your salad days and basking in a typically English setting that exudes the eccentricities of days of yore appeals to you, then please join us for the most relaxed music festival of the year.
Set in the majestic and beautifully landscaped grounds of Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire, the Cornbury Music Festival is fast becoming one the most celebrated events on the social calendar, where people from all walks of life join together with their children and listen to some of the most inspirational bands and artists of our time.
Steeped in history, stretching as far back as the Domesday book, Cornbury park, a National Nature Reserve, is probably the most unusual setting for a music festival: and yet, it is just perfect in every way.
Everyone is catered for here; whether you have a taste for Champagne or real ale, Gourmet food or good old pie and chips, the Cornbury Music festival has it all.
It’s the pause in life that we all yearn for, yet seldom find.
This sentiment is echoed by Mark Ellen the Editor of ‘The Word’ magazine who sponsor the second stage on Saturday: “There is nothing to compare with Cornbury. It’s the only rock festival for all ages where your day won’t be dented by demented jugglers and or your night by rave-pixies playing dance music in the campsite.”
Tim Healey from the ‘Oxford folk festival’ who programme the second stage on Sunday, also points out that “Cornbury allows us to reincarnate every summer in supremely beautiful parkland surroundings.”
But it is only fair to finish with a few words from the man who has put his heart and soul into bringing us this unique event year on year, and that is the promoter Hugh Phillimore. “Cornbury is going from strength to strength and we’re hoping for another sold out year. We’re very excited by our diverse line up and our ongoing partnership with The Word and Oxford Folk Festival. Although the festival market gets busier every year I hope that the unique atmosphere of Cornbury continues to attract both our loyal local crowd and the mixed age audience that come from across the country to our beautiful location.”
In a nutshell, this event is heaven sent: for there are Fair ground rides for both young and old, campsite facilities at a meagre toll; arts and crafts and a range of bars and plenty of spaces to park your cars; kids entertainment and massages galore; and if you need to leave the floor, hot air balloons are on hand, from which you can view the beautiful land.
So if Blondie and Pimms fulfil your whims and David Gray makes your day, then come one, come all cos we’re having a ball at Cornbury Park, just by the great hall.
