DJ Erick Morillo has died aged 49

Veteran DJ and producer Erick Morillo has been found dead at his home in Miami.

The cause of death is currently unknown. Morillo, 49, was due to appear in court on Friday, following a sexual battery charge in August. 

Born in New York in 1971, Morillo rose to prominence in the 1990s with mega hit 'I Like To Move It' (under the pseudonym Reel 2 Real) released in 1993, followed by the Move It album in 1994.

The platinum-selling artist continued to perform under multiple monikers including RAW, Ministers de la Funk and Deep Soul, and launched his own Subliminal Records label in 1997, releasing scores of tracks and remixes from the likes of Harry Romero, Axwell and Da Mob.

Morillo scooped a number of awards during his long career, including Best International DJ Award on three separate occasions in 2002, 2005 and 2006.

Morillo has been vocal about his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. In 2016, speaking to Pete Tong at the IMS summit in Ibiza, Morillo said he had nearly lost his arm after he began injecting ketamine.
